My deepest sympathy

Last week the Luge and Olympic community lost a fellow comrade and friend. I give my deepest sympathy and condolences to Nodar Kumaritashvili's family. We were all shaken by the tragedy and will remember him fondly.

2nd half of the season...

Sorry for the delay in posting! Last week marked the first post-Christmas World Cup and the 5th of the season. I finished 13th which was a huge disappointment...however, again i can find the time. I made a collial mistake after finish curve on the first run...which would have been the difference between a top-5 and this. We are now in Winterberg, Germany for the World Cup 6...and the weather looks like its goign to hold up. This place has been plagued with poor weather for the past 5 years so it would be a plesant change to have some sub-zero, clear weather.

So far my back is doing great. After being diagnosed with a 3rd herniated disk, I got a Cortisone shot over the Holiday break...and now i feel pretty good. Last week's starts were slow but a good beginning. This week should be significantly better!!!

6th place!

After a rough past few days, it was great to finish 6th today. I re-herniated my l5-S1 on Wed and have been battling that ever since. MRI isn't particulary optimistic but after 2 conservative starts and pretty good runs, its a nice morale boost. Thats for sure. Under different circumstances i wouldn't be so celebratry but i'll take it Happy

3rd in Nations Cup, injured back

I tweaked my back picking up the sled a few days ago. Not good. I'm hoping its just a minor set-back. MRI is scheduled tomorrow. Tonight's race went about as well as it could considering my slow start (protecting the injury) - I took 3rd. It was nice to know there's a lot of speed left once I get my start back on track and have a clean run.

Calgary World cup #1

This week marks the first world cup week. Training yesterday and today , race Friday, Sat. I believe the men race at 6pm on Sat. night. Its always windy here in Calgary (with warm weather anyway) so night races are great for minimizing that. So far training is good and the team is excited for the first race. Its nice be start out in North America...and Calgary is as close to 'home' as any track in the world. Afterall, I started here in 1990 where I took my very first runs. Ha! Now thats a blast from the past....

Final 2 days of training in Whistler

Heading into the weekend, the track here in Whistler has been wonderful. Very high speed and challenging but managable. There has been a few crashes but for the most part the team is holding up well...2 more days of training to go and we're off to Calgary for 1st world cup
